Many
Drivers mistakenly believe that cyclists have no rights on public
roads and feel compelled to "teach them a lesson,' deliverately
endangering their lives.
The
fact is, a bicycle is classified as a veicle on the public roads
and in all 50 states.
Tips
for drivers:
- Don't
get too close. Cyclists want to be
left alone. Cyclist are NOT required to ride on the shoulder,
on the sidewalk or 2 inches from the edge of the road.
- Don't
pass a cyclist and then slow down, stop or turn in front of
him. Sometimes we are going as fast as
you are..
- Don't
honk. You're likely to startle an inexperienced cyclist or a
child and cause him or her to fall.
Tips
for Cyclists:
- Wear
a helmet.
- Make
eye contact with drivers. Make sure they see you.
- Ride
on the right side of the road.
- Obey
traffic laws.
- Signal
turns. Point left or right.
- Ride
in a straight line and don't block traffic.
- Carry
a cell phone. You might need it to get help for yourself or
a strander motorist.
Tips
For Co2 Cartridge Users:
|
If
you are tired of hearing your Co2 cartridges clanking around
in your under-saddle bag or hydration pack, cut
3’ long rubber strips from an unusable road tube and
slide the strips over your Co2 cartridges
as seen in the photo. Also, if you use one of the Co2 inflators
that does not provide a cover over the Co2 cartridge during
inflation, this can help prevent the bare cartridge from
causing a cold burn to your fingers when inflating a flat
tire. If the rubber strips are difficult to slide over a
new cartridge, try using talcum powder, which will make
the job much easier. |
